Hateruma Island came from a language source, meaning 「the island of coral reef in the end」, which is the most southern island with inhabitant in Japan. The unique shimmering emanated by Hateruma Sea is called “Hateruma’s Blue”, and the Western Seashore is well-known for its beautiful sea which is rare in Yaeyama Islands. At Takanazaki, the most southern area of the island, has located the southernmost stele of Japan, stargazing tower and other equipments.All of those are very popular sightseeing attractions.
